A short film directed by Roman Polanski ( The Pianist , Rosemary's Baby ) was previewed, with an exquisite Prada coat taking centre stage as the main protagonist alongside performances by Brit actors Helena Bonham Carter and Sir Ben Kingsley.See more fashion from Cannes
Bonham Carter, perfectly co-ordinated in red and purple Prada, visits her Central Park psychiatrist, played by Kingsley, and recalls a bad dream in length, before reminiscing about her late father.
"His money was a curse," she says of her dear "Daddy" as she segues into explanations for her crippling loneliness - (however at this point we'd like to argue that her wealth benefits her remarkable wardrobe). But by this point Kingsley's attention has gone. Captivated by his patient's purple fur coat, innocently hanging upon the coat stand, he cannot take his eyes from it: drawn to touch it, smelling it, eventually trying in on and posing sensually in the mirror of his study, all while Bonham Carter muses about her bad fortune.
Then comes the tagline: 'Prada Suits Everyone'. We couldn't have said it better ourselves.
"It's very refreshing to know that there are still places open to irony and wit and, for sure, Prada is one of them," said Roman Polanski.
The director explained: "When I was asked to shoot a short movie for Prada, I did not think that I could really be myself, but the reality is that in the total freedom I was given, I had the opportunity to reunite my favorite group of people on set and just have fun."
